New Construction: Milled Log Elegance

Although log homes are traditionally made with rustic logs, with all of their irregularity in shape and their gaps filled with "chinking", to some a more refined look is preferable. For Mike and Moira, this was just such the case.

The logs used in this home are known as a round-milled, Swedish-cope profile.  Each log, in this case, has a uniform 10-inch diameter profile throughout the length of the log offering not only a more consistent look but a log package facilitated with less labor- equating, of course, into a more affordable package.
As a lakefront home this site has a spectacular view of the serene setting to the South.  In an effort to minimize obstruction of this great view the homeowners elected to use cable railing at the perimeter of the deck in lieu of some more traditional systems.  The cable adds further elegance to the exterior of the home and is also weather-durable.  Ipe exterior hardwood decking was also selected as a way to beat the persistent Northwest weather and as well from Mike and Moira's other passion: their many rescued racing greyhounds.  (Scroll down for image gallery)
